Vegan California Rolls

If you've never felt like spending your entire fortune on a sushi restaurant, you might not know what we're talking about, but to explain it in a nutshell, California rolls are big rice logs with seaweed in the middle. Yum, makes you hungry right? ;-)

Just kidding, in reality, they're super delicious! They're similar to maki rolls but instead of the nori sheet being on the outside of the rice, it's on the inside.

Like with makis, you can put whatever you want inside. As usual, we chose our favorite combo: avocado and mango! (and the first person who tells us they don't like sweet and savory dishes is going to get #*!?@*/**§°#!) :-D

  • -sushi rice 300 (g)
  • -rice vinegar 4 (tbsp)
  • -sugar 2 (tbsp)
  • -salt 1 (tsp)
  • -nori sheets 6
  • -mango 1
  • -avocado 1
  • -sesame

  • Rinse the sushi rice with cold water, drain, and repeat this process about ten times until the water becomes increasingly clear.
  • Pour the rice and 450 mL of water into a saucepan. Cook covered until the water is completely evaporated and the rice is cooked through.
  • Turn off the heat and leave the lid on for another 10 minutes. Mix the vinegar, sugar, and salt, and add the seasoning to the rice. Using a spatula, fan the rice to cool it completely.
  • Peel and slice the mango and avocado into strips, and cut the nori sheets in half.
  • On a square of plastic wrap, spread a bit of rice to form a 15x6 cm rectangle about 3 mm thick. Cover with half a sheet of nori. Arrange some strips of avocado and mango. Roll everything up in the plastic wrap to form a log.
  • Repeat this process to make 6 sausages.
  • Cut each roll into 6 pieces. Remove the plastic wrap and roll your California rolls in sesame seeds.
  • Serve with sweet soy sauce and enjoy ;) !
