Apple Crumble Tart

Apple Crumble Tart
For: 8 servingsDifficulty: EasyPreparation: 35 minCooking: 1h30

An apple pie that's like a crumble, or maybe a crumble on a pie crust... you can see it however you want, but either way, it's delicious! The perfect recipe to use up those old apples you picked last month ;) I used Mcintosh apples, but other varieties of softer, less crunchy apples will work just as well!

You'll see that for both doughs (the pie crust and the crumble topping), I use almost the same recipe and ingredients, just in slightly different proportions. That way, you're almost guaranteed to have everything you need already! By the way, I use odorless coconut oil, but you can also make it with margarine instead!

  • Prepare the applesauce: Peel all the apples. Cut them into quarters to remove the core with the seeds. Cut the flesh into cubes. In a pot, place all the cubes over medium heat with 125 mL of water (1/2 cup). Let cook for about 45 minutes, stirring frequently, on medium or low heat. The apples should be very tender. When they are well-compoteed, add the sugar, cinnamon, and agar-agar. Increase the heat to high and bring to a boil for at least 2 minutes while stirring constantly. Turn off the heat and set aside for later.
  • Prepare the tart base: Preheat the oven to 180°C (355°F). Mix the flour, sugar, almond powder, and salt. Incorporate the non-melted coconut oil with your hands. Don't hesitate to continue incorporating it for several minutes to form a dough. Finish by adding the plant-based milk.
  • In your lightly oiled tart dish, press the tart dough with your hand to spread it evenly into a smooth layer all around. Pre-bake the tart dough alone for 10 minutes in the oven.
  • Prepare the crumble: mix all the ingredients by hand to form a crumbly dough.
  • On the pre-baked pie crust, spread the apple compote. Then add the crumble mixture in small pieces all over to cover the compote. Bake everything for approximately 30 minutes. The top should be nicely golden brown.
  • Serve the crumble-style tart while still warm!
