Christmas Meatballs and Sweet Potato Mash

Christmas Meatballs and Sweet Potato Mash
For: 2 serv.Difficulty: EasyPreparation: 25 minCooking: 40 min

Meatballs with gravy sauce, served with mashed potatoes, is one of the dishes many families in Québec serve on Christmas Day! At first, it was quite unexpected for me, as I was used to less homey dishes for Christmas, but I really love the comforting and friendly spirit of this dish 😍 Plus, it appeals to children, as it's always more fun to eat food shaped like meatballs 😅 And mashed potatoes are a must-have!

I serve these meatballs with my vegan gravy sauce recipe and a small arugula salad.

  • Peel the potatoes and sweet potatoes. Cut them into pieces. Put them to cook in a pot filled with water, with a little coarse salt, for 25 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (355°F).
  • Meanwhile, prepare the meatballs: mix the soy protein, tamari, and 200 mL of hot water. Allow to rest for 10 minutes to rehydrate the protein. Add the breadcrumbs and flour to form a dough.
  • Form small balls and place them on a baking sheet. Bake for 25 minutes.
  • Mash the potatoes with margarine, soy milk, salt, and pepper.
  • Serve the meatballs drizzled with gravy sauce, accompanied by mashed potatoes.
