the tofu
  • -firm tofu 250 (g)
  • -hoisin sauce 80 (g)
  • -toasted sesame oil 2 (tbsp)
  • -cornstarch 15 (g)
the peanut sauce

  • -toasted sesame oil 1 (tbsp)
  • -lemon juice 1 (tbsp)
  • -soy cream 3 (tbsp)
  • -soy sauce 1 (tbsp)
the pilaf rice
  • -basmati rice 140 (g)
  • -yellow onion 1
  • -neutral oil 1 (tbsp)
  • -vegetable broth 500 (mL)

  • Prepare the tofu: cut slices of tofu (about 0.5 cm thick). Mix the hoisin sauce with 125 mL of water (half a cup). Marinate the tofu in this sauce.
  • Prepare the pilaf rice: peel and chop the onion. In a saucepan, heat the neutral oil and sweat the onion in it.
  • Add the rice to let it turn pearly for about 2 minutes and coat it with the onions and oil. Deglaze with the vegetable broth and let it cook for about 20 minutes.
  • Retrieve the tofu slices from the marinade (don't throw away the marinade!) and skewer them onto kebab sticks. In a pan, heat the toasted sesame oil and grill the tofu skewers on high heat for a few minutes on each side until nicely golden brown!
  • In the remaining marinade, add the starch and whisk. Pour this mixture into the pan over high heat, onto the tofu, to glaze the tofu.
  • Prepare the sauce: mix all the ingredients together.
  • Serve the tofu skewers with the sauce in a small bowl, and some pilaf rice! I sprinkled some sesame seeds and chives on top, and served everything with a small wedge of lime.

NotesYou can find hoisin sauce in the supermarket in the Asian specialties section, along with soy sauces! It's a thick, slightly smoky and sweet sauce that will bring all the flavor to the tofu in this recipe. If you're gluten-free, check if it contains some gluten or not !
