Za’atar Spice Blend

Za’atar Spice Blend
For: 1 small jarDifficulty: EasyPreparation: 5 minCooking: 15 min

Za’atar is a typical Middle Eastern spice blend that I absolutely love! In fact, the name means “thyme,” because it’s made with thyme, lightly toasted sesame seeds, sumac, oregano, and sometimes cumin, savory, and marjoram. If you haven’t tried it yet, I highly recommend giving it a go.

Some of my favorite ways to use it include sprinkling it on roasted vegetables, adding it to salads, mixing it with olive oil to season a dish, or spreading it on pita bread.

  • On a baking sheet, toast the sesame seeds in the oven at 180°C (355°F) for 10-15 minutes until golden. Alternatively, you can toast them in a skillet, keeping a close eye on them.
  • Then, mix all the ingredients in a bowl. Pour the mixture into your spice jar!
