Yep, these double smashed steaks burgers π Strangely, my soy steak recipe has never been on the blog, it's just in an insta post from March 2020, not very practical π So here it is, along with how to remake these smash burgers at home.
Prepare the steaks: In a bowl, rehydrate the soy protein with hot water. Wait 2-3 minutes and the water will be completely absorbed.
Add the soy sauce, tomato paste, Herbes de Provence, paprika, and steak spices. Mix. At this stage, your vegetable mince is perfect for pan-frying, using in shepherd's pie, tacos, etc! But it's not firm enough to make steaks.
Add the cornstarch OR buckwheat flour.
Shape 4 steaks very thin and flattened.
In a pan, heat a tablespoon of oil and grill the steaks for 3 minutes on each side. Add a slice of cheese on each one and place a lid on the pan. Wait for 4-5 minutes on medium heat until the cheese has melted.
Toast the burger buns. Wash and chop the lettuce and tomato. Slice the onion and pickle into rings. Chop the pepperoncini.
Assemble the burgers as you wish with sauces of your choice, two patties per serving, lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, and pepperoncini!
Serve immediately with a salad, fries, sweet potato fries, smiley potatoes...
